Can asbestos sheet sheds be used as cow sheds for dairy farming?
OK as a farmer Ill throw in my two bits here. First, Asbestos, if damaged, continually sheds fibers. So the cow barn made with asbestos sheets that arent properly coated or are damaged, will be constantly shedding a few fibers and YOU will be in there breathing those fibers as you work with the cows. Second, if you want to do a dairy farm consider that by using asbestos you may be contaminating your product unless you seriously maintain those sheets.Your cows will not live long enough normally to be affected by the asbestos but you will, and your kids may. Contact local authorities or experts and see if you can find an inexpensive way to dispose of the sheets and try to use a less toxic replacement if you can afford it. Removal is the safest option. That said, if the asbestos is undisturbed and undamaged, there are coatings that can be painted over it to reduce the risks. If it is undamaged and you are unable or concerned about doing a removal youll need to look into finding what is available in your area for coating and treating the asbestos. If it is undamaged then you could potentially use the barn for cattle, but, and this is huge. You must maintain the undamaged state of the sheets. There are many good sources of information on how to remove asbestos, how to use water to keep the dust from getting into your lungs, how to dispose of the sheets safely. Heres a link to a fairly long list of product types for coating undamaged asbestos sheets.
